"What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, but forfeit their own soul?" - Mark 8:36
When you read this statement by Jesus... most Christians tend to wholeheartedly agree with what He said. It just makes sense. When you compare the two options, the world or ones soul, the better decision is clear.
and yet still, we struggle.
In the deepest recesses of our hearts, where sin still lurks, we still want the world and all it has to offer. We want to satisfy our fleshly desires. We want what we know we shouldn't have... what we know is destructive for us.
So what should we do when we recognize this? The tendency we feel most powerfully when we come to recognize this truth is to suppress it... to shut it down. But nothing could be more damaging to the life and faith of a believer. Instead, these desires instead need to be confessed and dragged into the light where they can be dealt with.
Don't compromise and settle for anything less than the best of what God has for you.
Identify your sin.
Confess your sin.
Kill your sin.
When you do this, you'll experience life... and life to the fullest.
